FAQ’s

What does TroKar mean?

The term TroKar comes from the word, Trocar, which is a medical instrument with a sharply pointed end, often three-sided. In modern times, surgical trocars are used to perform laparoscopic surgery and are deployed when the utmost sharpness and ease of penetration is needed.

What makes Lazer TroKar so different?

The Lazer TroKar hooks are not made like any other hook in the world. TroKar hooks use Surgically Sharpened Technology to grind and hone a three-sided symmetrical point that is scalpel sharp and capable of penetrating and withstanding the toughest membranes and cartilage.

What is Surgically Sharpened Technology and where did it come from?

Surgically Sharpened Technology, or SST, is the term used to describe the one-of-a-kind machinery and patented manufacturing techniques used to make the TroKar hook. SST comes from the medical field, where the sharpest instruments in the world are developed for all types of medical and veterinary medicine. Lazer TroKar worked hand-in-hand with one of the worlds leading manufacturers of surgical grade needles to develop and engineer a point specifically designed for fishing.

Where are Lazer TroKar hooks made?

TroKar hooks are proud to be the only premium brand of fishhooks to be made in the United States of America. Made in Denver, Colorado by a team of dedicated American workers, the TroKar hooks help to employ hundreds and are emblematic of America’s finest craftsmanship and engineering.

Exactly how sharp are these hooks?

In tests comparing the sharpness of TroKar hooks against other leading brands, the Surgically Sharpened TroKar hook consistently pierced a test medium with half the pressure required for other hooks. TroKar < 60g, Competitors hooks > 120g.

What makes TroKar’s point so durable?

Each TroKar hook has a special and unique point ratio that has been specifically designed for its technique. The TroKar point was developed to mimic the strongest natural shape in nature, a three sided triangle. Used to support span-bridges and skyscrapers, the triangular point helps to disperse pressure amongst its 3 symmetrical sides, allowing for a sticky sharp point all day long.

”I love the durability of these hooks,” says Jason Williamson, “You can catch a fish on a TroKar, re-adjust your bait and continue to fish with the same hook.”

What kind of metal is used for Lazer TroKar hooks?

Lazer TroKar uses a special and proprietary high-carbon steel called Q741. This unique blend was specially created for the TroKar hooks. The wire contains increased carbon content and reduced impurities, allowing for a much higher tensile strength.

How are the hooks tempered?

The tempering process for the Lazer TroKar hooks is specifically tailored for the Q741 wire. In our heat-treat lab, we specifically manipulate the molecular structure of the high carbon steel wire, bringing out the maximum strength and imparting just the right amount of flex to resist breaking.

What makes TroKar hooks hold so tight?

All TroKar hooks employ a low-profile barb that is designed for easier penetration, yet ultimate holding power. The precise angle of the barb was determined using highly specific geometric calculations.

Are TroKar hooks corrosion resistant?

Yes, all TroKar hooks are finished in our black chrome auto-catalytic plating process which ensures a sultry and sexy finish that is not only pretty but functional as well, providing for corrosion protection in both salt and freshwater.

Do you ever need to sharpen TroKar hooks?

The three-sided symmetrical point of the TroKar hook is especially conducive to sharpening and makes the process very easy by simply following the natural contours of the hook. We suggest relying on common sense, and if the point of the hook seems to be dulled from bouncing off rip-rap or debris, a few strokes with a fine-grained hook hone will easily help to add sharpness to the point.

Is the wire size of these hooks comparable to competitors?

TroKar hooks are made using a bolstered wire diameter giving serious anglers a stouter hook that allows for aggressive hook-sets and intense fights. Normally increasing wire size is a detriment to a hook, as traditional point geometries would inherently become less sharp. However, the TroKar point is able to achieve such a high level of sharpness that it is able to function just as well on a stouter hook.

What is the TroKar B.A.R.B and its advantages?

The TroKar B.A.R.B., or Bait Alignment & Retention Barb, is made using ultra-high grade, precision-machined molds and space age thermoplastics, improving on one of the most critical design elements of hooks for soft plastics. The TroKar B.A.R.B. was designed and engineered to allow anglers to use a wider variety of baits and put them through as much abuse as humanly possible—all while maintaining original bait placement and alignment.

Who designed the TroKar line of hooks?

Along with in-house experts, TroKar hooks were heavily influenced by the techniques and preferred methods of the world’s top Elite Series pro’s. The likes of Skeet Reese, Shaw Grigsby, Rick Clunn, Gerald Swindle, Brent Chapman, Jason Williamson, Jonathon VanDam and Scott Martin.

What is the main difference between the TK110 EWG Worm and the TK120 MAGWORM?

The specific difference between these two Extra Wide Gap hooks boils down to wire diameter. The TK120 MAGWORM is the heavier wire version of the TK110. Built for super braids and stout rods, the TK120 is made to withstand the punishment of heavy cover fishing, all while maintaining an incredibly sharp point.

The TK130 is the Flippin’ & Pitchin’ hook.  What makes this hook stand above the rest?

There are several specific characteristics to the TK130 which separate it from the crowd. The first reason is the TroKar B.A.R.B., which vastly improves bait alignment, retention and longevity. Secondly, the TK130 features a fully brazed eye which helps ensure a secure connection that resists fraying, nicking and scoring and is wholly designed for today’s braided lines.
